Some recent social media activity by team owner, Jim Irsay, makes it seem like he and the Indianapolis Colts are interested in acquiring Lamar Jackson.
The NFL is now in the second week of free agency, and veteran quarterback, Lamar Jackson, has been able to negotiate with other teams since Wednesday, March 15. Since the Baltimore Ravens used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, he can field contract offers from other teams. If Jackson is interested in an offer from another team, Baltimore can either match the contract or let Jackson walk in exchange for two-first round picks.
Since Wednesday, there haven’t been many updates to Jackson’s situation. Everyone has been trying to figure out which teams are interested and also which teams would be a great fit for Lamar Jackson. One of the teams that has frequently been named as a good destination is the Indianapolis Colts. A lot of people throughout the league recognize that the Colts need a quarterback and believe that Jackson should be that quarterback.
Aapparently, Indy’s team owner, Jim Irsay, thinks the same. That’s how it looks on social media at least. Colts fans quickly noticed that Irsay liked a tweet by The Blue Stable, asking if Indianapolis should be going after Lamar Jackson. Does this social media activity by the team owner mean that Indy is working to acquire Jackson?
Are the Colts trying to acquire Lamar Jackson?
Social media is its own world, so this could simply just be Jim Irsay liking a post. There’s even a chance that it was accidental. Irsay also could be having fun and trolling people like he did when he tweeted about his relationship with the Chicago Bears. There is a chance, though, that this was genuine and could be a reflection of Indy’s actions.
Fans would certainly love if that’s the case, because why wouldn’t you want Lamar Jackson on your team? He’s one of the best quarterbacks in all of football and he instantly makes teams better. Putting Jackson on the Colts would make them contenders and also solve the quarterback problem that the team has been working to fix for four years.
Would acquiring Jackson cost a lot of money and a couple of first-round picks? Yes. Would it be worth it? Absolutely. At the end of the day, the goal is to win and compete for championships. Acquiring Lamar Jackson would certainly help Indianapolis do that.
