By Ryan Heckman
On Monday, tragedy struck for a former Indianapolis Colts great and his family.
Longtime Colts cornerback and two-time Pro Bowler, Vontae Davis, was found deceased in his South Florida home Monday morning.
Local police responded to a medical call and identified the man to be Davis and, at the moment, have suggested that foul play is not involved. For the time being, the investigation is ongoing and there aren't many known details.
While we can all speculate as to just what happened, the important thing to do in a moment like this is ensure we keep all of the family and friends in our thoughts and prayers. Davis was a member of the Colts organization for six seasons from 2012-2017.
Vontae Davis was at the top of the league during his stint with the Colts
The former first-round pick back in 2009 out of Illinois was traded from the Miami Dolphins to Indy after three seasons with the Fins. In his third season with the Colts, Davis made his first Pro Bowl.
That year, Davis finished the 2014 campaign with a ridiculous 18 pass breakups, four interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 15 games played.
The following season, Davis made a second-straight Pro Bowl when the 2015 campaign saw him intercept another four passes while coming up with 16 pass breakups. That was right in the middle of a run that saw Davis tally double-digit pass breakups in four straight seasons, impressively enough.
Davis' 10-year NFL career was wrapped up with one season playing for the Buffalo Bills after his time in Indianapolis came to a close. He appeared in just one game during that 2018 season before his career was done.
All in all, Davis ended just short of 100 career pass breakups (97) and 22 interceptions. He also amassed 395 combined tackles, including 10 for a loss and 2.0 sacks.
