Colts make a bold first-round trade in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft
By Ryan Heckman
The secondary will be a major topic this offseason and is arguably the Colts' biggest area of weakness, as a whole. In the second round, the Colts go with someone I believe to be the best safety in this draft, Minnesota's Tyler Nubin.
The Colts are getting a guy who can be their next Bob Sanders, and I know that's high praise, but that's what this defense needs and who Nubin has the potential to be. Nubin is an alpha dog in the secondary. He is a leader and plays like it. He plays like his entire defense depends on him, each and every snap.
Nubin is very good in both coverage and against the run. His coverage skills allow him to play free if need be, but he's also a physical player who loves getting up near the box and helping out agains the run. This is a Colts captain waiting to happen.
At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Nubin has excellent size for the position. He is great in zone coverage with instincts to boot. He's able to make plays on running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. He'll never shy away from the opportunity to lay the wood, either. Nubin is a home run pick here in the second.
