Colts 7-Round Mock Draft: Indianapolis addresses top two concerns immediately
By Ryan Heckman
One other position the Colts still need to address, in a way, is at safety. Re-signing Julian Blackmon was a great move; one of many in-house signings we saw from Indy this offseason. But, they could afford to find another player to come in and compete with the likes of Nick Cross in order to bolster the position even further.
USC's Calen Bullock is one of the top five safeties in this class according to some experts, and finding him here in the third round feels like more than fair value. In Bullock, the Colts are getting a towering safety at 6-foot-2 who can also show off the wheels, having run a 4.48 in his 40-yard dash at the Combine.
Bullock is excellent in coverage. He knows when to take those calculated risks and they typically pay off. He's obviously a bigger defensive back, but very athletic for his size. He's able to line up and cover a variety of types, whether it's in the slot or elsewhere. His ball skills and overall nose for the football are both impressive. He'll give this secondary a big-time lift.
