Indianapolis Colts 53-man roster feels like one that can compete in the AFC South
Safety (4)
- Starters: Julian Blackmon, Nick Cross,
- Reserves: Rodney Thomas II, Trevor Denbow
We saw Ronnie Harrison Jr announced as one of the first cuts on this team. It was head scratching as we all try to figure out what the plan is for this team in the secondary. Without question, Julian Blackmon and Nick Cross are the undisputed starters of this team at safety.
However, the continued negligence to address the depth is coming to a head. Rodney Thomas II is fine as a backup, and they kept Trevor Denbow for his terrific special teams ability. If one of those starters goes down, this team could be in some serious trouble.
Some capable names were cut by other teams on Tuesday, and I would hope that some waiver claims or signings are made.
Special Teams (3)
- Starters: Matt Gay, Rigoberto Sanchez, Luke Rhodes
Everything went to plan here. Shane Steichen said in a post-game media session that he has zero concern with Matt Gay as he missed multiple kicks this preseason.
It’s possible they put more focus on the special teams to master the new kickoff and less on him kicking. He’s a veteran and should be able to be a reliable kicker this season.
