The Colts concluded their preseason slate with a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals 27-14 and finished with a 2-1 record during the exhibition period. We saw some starters get some action, but it was mostly a continued tryout for the bubble players and some tape for those who will be exiting the franchise potentially at 4pm on Tuesday. The final decision is due tomorrow, so let’s make our final predictions for the Colts 53-man roster.

Rookies Are Highlighted In Bold

Quarterback (2)
Roster Locks: Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco
Practice Squad: Same Ehlinger (3rd QB), Jason Bean
Cuts: Kedon Slovis

We saw a surgical opening drive from Anthony Richardson on Thursday night but was shaky afterwards. Of course, this will not change the depth chart amongst him and Joe Flacco. They are spots are secured and after that is where it gets interesting. The biggest debate is do you keep a third QB to prevent Ehlinger potentially getting picked up by another team.

I think his interest would not be enough to warrant a roster spot. I think they put him on the practice squad and use his availability under the new 3rd QB rules. I have moved rookie Jason Bean to the practice squad as he has too many great qualities to cut him. Let him develop and run scout team for the mobile quarterback preparation.

Running Back (4)
Roster Locks: Jonathan Taylor, Evan Hull, Trey Sermon, Tyler Goodson
Practice Squad: Zavier Scott
Cuts: Demetric Felton

Here is where the first debate begins on this roster. Typically, three backs would suffice but with the injury status to start the season with Trey Sermon and his hamstring you must take four on the roster to start the season. To complicate things, the two debatable players have similar skill sets with both being that change of pace and pass catching back.

I give the slight edge to Tyler Goodson, but he might get picked up on waivers if he is cut more than Evan Hull might. The best decision seems to be to keep both and figure out the rest as you go. Both have proven themselves this preseason and should be rewarded as such.

Zavier Scott and Demetric Felton have both been solid in their respective opportunities and I can see a spot for Zavier Scott on the practice squad.
