If the NFL playoffs started today, who would Colts be facing in the Wild Card round?
With four weeks left in the season, the Indianapolis Colts currently hold a playoff spot. If the postseason started now, who would Indy be facing?
The Indianapolis Colts have already exceeded expectations this season. Not only has the team been better than expected, they’ve been able to navigate several obstacles and remain competitive. Because of that, first-year head coach Shane Steichen is in the Coach of the Year race and the team is in the playoff race.
Indy is currently 7-6, but so are five other AFC teams. With four weeks left in the regular season, the playoff race is extremely crowded, so the work for Indianapolis is far from done. However, if the postseason started today, the Colts would be playing in a Wild Card game. The question is who will Indy be playing?
AFC Playoff bracket heading into Week 15
The Colts are currently the No. 7 seed, which is the final Wild Card spot. That means Indy would have to face the highest-seeded team playing on Wild Card weekend. Since the top team in each conference gets a first-round bye, Indianapolis would be facing the AFC’s No. 2 seed.
Currently, the No. 2 seed in the AFC is the 9-4 Miami Dolphins. So if the playoffs started today, the Colts would be taking a trip to south beach, hoping to upset one of the league’s best teams.
Despite just being upset by the Tennessee Titans in a bizarre Monday Night Football game— that Miami led by 14 with under three minutes left —the Dolphins are one of the most complete teams in the league. With Jalen Ramsey and Vic Fangio added to the defensive side of the ball this offseason, Miami has been playing pretty good defense.
Of course, the story is the offense. The best offense in the league, the Dolphins run the ball well and pass it even better. There are weapons all around, good quarterback play, and great play designs. If this is the opponent Indy draws, it would definitely be a challenge. However, this is the NFL, and anyone can be beat.
The Colts have a win over the Baltimore Ravens, who is currently the No. 1 team in the AFC. While that win came back in Week 3, it shows that anything can happen once two teams are put on the field. If the Colts take care of business and secure a playoff spot, they shouldn’t be counted out against any opponent.
