Playing in Indianapolis, and not being a dominant team, some Colts players are often overlooked and not appreciated as much as they should be. Recently, an NFL writer argued that the league’s fans should appreciate Michael Pittman Jr. much more. Now, one of Indy’s defensive players is being praised after consistently flying under the radar.

Veteran defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, who is currently a free agent after spending last season with the Colts, recently appeared on Good Morning Football. During his conversation, he was asked who he thinks is one of the more underrated defenders in the NFL. Ngakoue needed no time to think, as he quickly explained that his former teammate Grover Stewart is one of the more underrated players in football.

Yannick Ngakoue says Grover Stewart is extremely underrated

Ngakoue explained that Stewart always makes splash plays and is consistent every Sunday, before ultimately calling him “one of the best run defenders that I’ve played with.” Ngakoue concluded by saying Stewart definitely doesn’t get enough praise.

Anyone who watched the Colts last season knows that Ngakoue is speaking facts. Grover Stewart is a force at defensive tackle. In 2022, Stewart recorded 70 tackles, nine for a loss, four sacks, seven quarterback hits, and three batted passes. There were times where he completely took over drives.

Unfortunately, the Colts were bad and Stewart didn’t receive any accolades that acknowledged how great he was last season. He’s now preparing to be even more dominant in 2023. Earlier in the offseason, Stewart told the media that he’s working on improving his pass rush so that he can be an unstoppable force on every down.

Indianapolis certainly needs another big year from Stewart, but Stewart needs it for himself as well. The 2023 season will be the last year on his current contract and another big year will set him up for a nice deal. Maybe an impressive 2023 will gain him more respect throughout the league as well.
