Veteran players for the Indianapolis Colts recently talked about how thrilled they were when the team drafted exciting quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Last Thursday, the Indianapolis Colts drafted quarterback Anthony Richardson. Coming out of Florida, Richardson’s dual-threat ability and otherworldly athleticism has a lot of people excited that Indy may have found it’s next franchise quarterback. No group is more excited than the Colts’ veterans that have had to deal with a different starting quarterback every year they’ve been in Indianapolis.

From the moment Richardson was drafted last Thursday, veterans have been expressing their excitement. That continued on Wednesday, when some of Indy’s players spoke with the media. Defensive tackle Grover Stewart, who’s preparing for his seventh season with the Colts, said Richardson was the quarterback he “wanted all along.”

Quenton Nelson, the All-Pro guard whose job will be to protect Richardson, said, “What he can do on the field is pretty extraordinary.” DeForest Buckner didn’t wait until speaking with the media, tweeting out a day after Richardson was selected, saying, “Just a reminder that we drafted an absolute DAWG last night!”

Linebacker EJ Speed applauded Chris Ballard and Ed Dodds for the work they did all throughout the draft, and Isaiah Rodgers Sr. also took to Twitter to express his excitement for Richardson coming to Indy.

Colts are excited for Anthony Richardson

There are several reasons to be excited about Richardson. The two biggest reasons were stated earlier: Indianapolis really needs stability at quarterback, and Richardson is a unique athlete with an extremely high ceiling. If he reaches his potential, the Colts will be in great shape for several years.

It’s now up to Richardson, Shane Steichen and the coaching staff, and all of these excited veterans to help Richardson develop. The quicker that development happens, the quicker Indy returns to contender status.
