As the 2023 NFL Draft approaches, the Indianapolis Colts are getting to know an under-the-radar receiver prospect that could be the steal of the draft.
During Chris Ballard’s time as general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, the Colts have developed a reputation for their ability to find under-the-radar gems all throughout the draft. From selecting Shaq Leonard in the second round of the 2018 Draft, to finding Rodney Thomas II in the seventh round of the 2022 Draft, Ballard and the team have done a great job at finding steals in the draft.
As the 2023 NFL Draft approached, Indianapolis is getting to know another under-the-radar prospect with promising skills. It’s been reported that the Colts have “a lot of interest” in Fort Hays State University wide receiver Manny Ramsey. Indy, along with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, spoke with Ramsey after his pro day.
Colts showing interest in wide receiver Manny Ramsey
Ramsey played four seasons at Fort Hays State University and put up some impressive numbers. He finished his collegiate career playing in 44 games, and catching 176 passes for 2,606 yards and 22 touchdowns. Ramsey’s film also shows that he has strong hands and the ability to make really tough catches.
One scout compared Ramsey to Cooper Kupp, highlighting how the receivers know how to navigate both zone and man coverage to get open. Kupp was also somewhat of an under-the-radar prospect when he came out of Eastern Washington University. He did, however, have a more prolific college career than Ramsey and was ultimately selected in the third round. Even still, not many people expected Cooper Kupp to become the wide receiver that he is today.
It will be interesting to see where Manny Ramsey is ultimately selected and if it will be by the Colts. Ramsey is surely just looking for an opportunity carve out an NFL career for himself.
