Colts rookies sat down with two franchise greats to get advice about thriving in NFL
As the Indianapolis Colts are preparing their rookies for the NFL, Indy gave them the chance to get advice from two franchise greats.
The Indianapolis Colts have had a ton of great players in the history of the franchise. Past players who’ve had tremendous careers can always be a resource for a team, especially when it comes to developing young players. The Colts are lucky to have former players like Reggie Wayne and Cato June on the coaching staff.
Recently, Indy’s rookies had the opportunity to sit down with a couple of more franchise greats. The Colts shared footage of the rookie class getting advice from Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James and Antoine Bethea, who played 14 years in the league as a safety.

Both James and Bethea were drafted by Indianapolis; James in 1999 and Bethea in 2006. James played seven seasons with the Colts and was selected to four Pro Bowls during that time. Bethea was with Indy for eight years and made two Pro Bowl teams.
In their chat with the rookies, they shared tips about how they were able to survive in the league for so long. They both emphasized how important it is to work hard at your craft, but how it’s equally important to have everything that’s non-football related in order, as well, to last a long time in the NFL.
One of the highlights of the video, that was just under one and a half minutes long, was when Indy’s top draft pick, Anthony Richardson, asked how did James and Bethea go about leadership. James explained that the best way to lead is by example. The exchange showed that the young quarterback certainly wants to be a leader of this team.
The Colts drafted 12 players and signed 15 more undrafted rookies, so it’s certainly a big class. It’s also a very promising class. Hopefully, they can take in this advice and eventually become franchise greats as well.
