3 Colts players whose stock is plummeting after preseason Week 1
By Ryan Heckman
When the Indianapolis Colts took the field in their first preseason game against the Denver Broncos just a couple of days ago, all eyes were on quarterback Anthony Richardson.
It was his first action since enduring a season-ending injury as a rookie in 2023, and fans were eager to see what he could do. Richardson played only two series and went 2-for-4 passing, so we didn't get to see too much of him, and that's understandable.
Obviously, Richardson doesn't have to worry about his roster spot. This is his team. But, there are some other players who may have to start worrying about their jobs going forward.
In the game against Denver, there were a couple of takeaways when it came to certain players whose stock is now falling.
Which players took a step back after Preseason Week 1 for the Colts?
Jelani Woods, TE
It wasn't that Jelani Woods looked bad by any means, but this is one of the most crowded and confusing rooms in the entire league. One catch for 17 yards isn't going to cut it for a guy looking to finally work past his injury concerns and live up to the third-round draft capital invested in him two years ago.
To be truthful, at this stage, no one has a clue what the coaching staff is going to do in the tight end room. Woods could make the roster and work his way into being the starter they had hoped. Or, the team could opt to cut him when it's all said and done.
Raekwon Davis, DL
Although he did not play, we are beginning to worry a bit about defensive lineman Raekwon Davis. He has endured blood pressure-related issues, and unfortunately, it is an issue that could cause him to miss time or be placed on the NFI list.
Dallis Flowers, CB
Whether it's been in camp or live action, Dallis Flowers has had a rough go the last few weeks. In the game against Denver, he was called for a couple of pass interference penalties. After working his way back from a torn Achilles last year, Flowers has appeared to be third in line at outside cornerback, but has shown to be nothing but a liability.
Not only did he get called for a couple of penalties, but Flowers was completely roasted on a route by Courtland Sutton. That moment, alone, was an awful look that didn't exactly inspire confidence.
