With the 2023 NFL Draft coming up, the Indianapolis Colts will welcome some new players but also move on from players already on the roster.

The 2023 NFL Draft is just under a week away, and it is shaping up to be a huge weekend for the Indianapolis Colts. Set to enter the draft with nine total picks, Indy is in position to make several players’ dreams come true, while also making some additions that should help turn the team around. With the No. 4 pick in the draft, the Colts and their plans at the top of the draft have been a big storyline all offseason.

Indianapolis is expected to take a quarterback with the No. 4 pick. Which quarterback Indy selects remains a mystery. Whether it be CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, or Will Levis, the quarterback will enter the league with high expectations, expectations of being Indy’s franchise quarterback. That selection will also impact the future of some of Indy’s current players.

Currently, the Colts have three quarterbacks on the roster: Gardner Minshew, Nick Foles, and Sam Ehlinger. Once a quarterback is drafted Thursday, Indianapolis will likely be parting ways with one of these veterans. Considering the fact that Minshew was just signed, it will probably be either Foles or Ehlinger getting cut.

Colts will likely cut Sam Ehlinger or Nick Foles after draft

Again, Minshew was just signed this offseason. After spending his last two seasons with Shane Steichen on the Philadelphia Eagles, it makes a lot of sense for Minshew to be the veteran backup for a rookie QB. But where does that leave Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger?

Ehlinger wasn’t even expected to make the team last year but he put together an undeniable preseason that earned him a spot on the 53-man roster. Foles, came in last offseason to serve as Matt Ryan’s backup, and was hurt when he as entered into the action. It’s unlikely that either of them will jump Minshew for the QB2 spot, and Indy certainly won’t be carrying four quarterbacks. So after the Colts draft a quarterback next week, expect at least one of them to be released, possibly even both.
