With several top free agents still available to be signed, the Indianapolis Colts have been named as a great landing spot for one of the top available receivers.
On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts signed wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie. The former Buffalo Bill joins Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Ashton Dulin in Indy’s wide receiver room. However, the Colts shouldn’t be finished building up the group. With a nice amount of cap space left, Indy can add even more receivers to help the offense.
The Colts have also been named as a good fit for one of the free agent receivers that’s still available. In a recent piece by Alex Ballentine for Bleacher Report, Ballentine lists the top landing spots for six free agent receivers. Ballentine named Indianapolis as one of the top landing spots for Mecole Hardman.
Are the Colts a fit for Mecole Hardman?
Ballentine explained that Hardman isn’t a No. 1 receiver so he should go to a team “that will look to manufacture touches for him and utilize his speed.” Ballentine went on to say that Indianapolis makes sense because Indy needs help at receiver and head coach Shane Steichen knows how to “maximize his players' abilities.”
Adding Hardman would certainly be great for the Colts. He was very productive during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. In four seasons, Mecole Hardman played in 57 games and caught 151 passes for 2,088 and 16 touchdowns. Hardman also added 20 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
He’d be the perfect receiver to add to Indy’s receiver room and will be able to work out of the slot and be utilized differently than the bigger wideouts that the Colts already have. While Indianapolis certainly could use Mecole Hardman, it’ll be interesting to see if Chris Ballard is looking to add another receiver in free agency after re-signing Ashton Dulin and signing Isaiah McKenzie.
