Colts named a 'mystery team' that could trade for Brandon Aiyuk

Although it's not really a mystery if everyone knows it?

What a week it's been for Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors. We've gotten random Twitter accounts reporting details, and then angry NFL Network employees getting mad – on the air – about it. We've gotten reports of a done deal to Pittsburgh, and yet, as of Thursday morning, he's very much not a Pittsburgh Steeler yet. And since he's not a Pittsburgh Steeler yet, that means there's still time for him to be an Indianapolis Colt! CBS Sports agrees with me, so you know the momentum's real.

While everyone waits for Aiyuk to become a Pittsburgh Steelers, we're spending our time trying to figure out other teams he theoretically get traded to. If you can think of something else to talk about instead, I'm all ears. But until then, let's just hear CBS Sports out. You know, just for fun and definitely not to foolishly raise our hopes or anything.

CBS Sports thinks the Colts should trade for Brandon Aiyuk and I agree

" ... they could use a more proven big-play weapon for young quarterback Anthony Richardson, whose cannon of an arm would benefit from Aiyuk's speed. And general manager Chris Ballard has almost $26 million to spare in 2024 cap space."

Sometimes it's truly as simple as that. Could the Colts use another good wide receiver? They sure could. Is Brandon Aiyuk a good wide receiver? He sure is. Do the Colts have money? You bet. Let's make a deal, John Lynch!

(It would be cool, though. The idea of Anthony Richardson lining up with Aiyuk, Adoni Mitchell, Michael Pittman, and Alec Pierce is actually very exciting and would probably make the Colts legitimate AFC South contenders. That group alone would bring a level of speed to the Colts passing game that'd be hard for even the best secondaries to deal with. They'd almost certainly win 10 games. I told myself I wasn't going to do this.)
