Colts make huge trade with Bears in latest NFL.com mock draft
There are so many more days left for people to pump out mock drafts, so things are going to get weird in the next couple weeks. The latest comes from NFL.com's Peter Schrager, who starts the whole thing off reminding people that this intel only comes from what he's hearing from his inside sources. Thank you for clearning that up Peter. So if you get mad, remember, don't blame the person who's writing this – blame the anonymous people that actually wrote it via league circles and back channels.
But Peter's anonymous sources did, in fact, have an interesting nugget on what the Colts may do in the first round. The league circles all came together and decided to project that Indy would trade up (!) for a star wide receiver:
Colts make huge trade with Bears in latest NFL.com mock draft
"Indianapolis sends Chicago a future second-round pick in order to move up six slots and pounce on Nabers, the star receiver out of LSU. In an AFC South that saw the Jaguars, Texans and Titans allaggressively attack free agency, Colts GM Chris Ballard shows he has some tricks up his sleeve, too."
In their defense, Nabers on the Colts would be electric. Their wide receiver depth drops of significantly after Michael Pittman Jr. – although Pro Football Focus liked Josh Downs' rookie season last year – and adding a possible WR1 to that group would give Anthony Richardson more than enough to thrive in his second season.
We'll all have to remember to give Peter's anonymous sources all the credit they deserve when the Colts actually pull this off. And while the cynic among you may think that publishing a mock draft with a bunch of crazy trades a week before the draft is peak content dumping, the real ball-knowers will recognize that this is simply what his sources are telling him. And who are we to be skeptical of anoymous sources?
