If you spent any time in Indianapolis Colts social media communities in recent years, you’ve probably seen the black alternate uniforms that fans have been clamoring for. Everyone loves the traditional blue and white uniforms, but it’ll be cool to switch it up from time to time, right?
Well, on Thursday, the Colts granted the fans’ wishes, sort of. Indianapolis unveiled a new “Indiana Nights” uniform, and the uniform has a black helmet, with a heathered blue jersey and pants. Indy will debut the uniform in Week 7, when the team hosts the Cleveland Browns on October 22.
Colts announce alternate uniforms featuring black helmets
With second-year players Alec Pierce and Rodney Thomas II during the modeling, Indy’s video explained that this is the first black helmet in team history. The heathered blue uniforms feature white numbers on the jersey, with a black trim, and two white stripes down the side of the pants.
As stated, the Colts will first wear these during there “Indiana Nights” themed Week 7 game against the Cleveland Browns on October 22. The good news, however, is that this uniform isn’t going to be a one off, that Indy just wears once in the 2023 season. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Indianapolis will be wearing the uniform in select games throughout future seasons.
That means the Colts currently have four different uniform options. There are the traditional home and away uniforms, and there’s also the throwback uniforms that Indianapolis will be wearing in Week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Add in the Indiana Nights alternate, and that’s four different uniforms that Indy could sport.
Fans will certainly be looking forward to Week 7 for the debut of these uniforms, and hopefully, the Colts will win in them. You can’t waste a cool alternate uniform on a bad performance.
