The Indianapolis Colts draft Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

After years of a carousel of veteran quarterbacks, the Indianapolis Colts have finally drafted a young quarterback that they can now build around. With the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Colts selected Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Indianapolis didn’t have to trade up to get Richardson. With Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Will Anderson Jr. going in the first three picks, Indy made Richardson the third quarterback off the board. In Richardson, Indianapolis will be getting an athletic quarterback with a big arm, and arguably the highest ceiling of any prospect in the draft.

Richardson won over fans and the media throughout the pre-draft process with his impressive athleticism. The football world first started getting excited about that athleticism during his time at Florida. After rotating in for certain packages as a redshirt freshman, Richardson took over as the full-time starter during 2022.

During his time for the Gators, Richardson played in 22 games and completed 54.7% of his passes 3,105 yards and 24 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. On the ground, Richardson added 1,116 yards and 12 touchdowns.

While Richardson has been described by some as raw and a project quarterback, his gifts and ceiling are undeniably. It’s now up to Shane Steichen and the Colts to help him reach his astronomical potential.

Now he’ll be tasked with providing consistent and quality quarterback play to a team that has been desperately searching for a franchise quarterback since the unexpected retirement of Andrew Luck back in 2019. The Colts have had a different starting quarterback in every season from that point, and the hope is that Richardson will put a stop to that.

Joining first-year head coach Shane Steichen, fourth-overall pick Richardson will help lead the Colts into a new era.
