2. Hiring Shane Steichen as head coach

The first decision that the Colts had to make this offseason was hiring a head coach. Indianapolis took its time, carrying out a unique and lengthy process, making sure it found the right coach. In the end, Indy settled on Shane Steichen.

While there were a ton of great coaching candidates this offseason, so far, Steichen seems like a great choice by Indy. For starters, he’s an offensive guru, and Indianapolis’ horrid offense needs all the help it can get. Considering the season that Steichen is coming off as offensive coordinator for the NFC-winning Philadelphia Eagles, it’s hard not to get excited about what Steichen can do for Indy.

Steichen’s history with Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts makes him an expert for developing rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson. The head coach-quarterback duo should be able to get Indy’s offense turned around.

Beyond Steichen’s impact on the offense, he seems to be the type of head coach that the entire team needed. Team owner Jim Irsay and star linebacker Shaquille Leonard have been vocal about wanting an intense head coach that will hold everyone accountable. That seems to be the kind of coach that Steichen is.

His passion comes through in everything he says, and he has routinely discussed the importance creating a standard of accountability in the organization.
