What’s been the best move of the 2023 offseason for the Colts?
After making several important moves throughout this 2023 offseason, what stands out as the top move for the Indianapolis Colts?
The Indianapolis Colts made quite a few moves this offseason that could have a large impact on the next era, and decade, of Colts football. Indianapolis addressed what many people consider the two most important positions in the NFL: head coach and quarterback. In addition to hiring Shane Steichen and drafting Anthony Richardson, Indy also added a lot of promising young talent on both sides of the ball.
With all of the moves Indianapolis made this offseason, which move stands out as the best move? That, of course, won’t be officially determined until some time down the line, but an initial analysis could be made. That’s what Cody Benjamin did in a recent piece for CBS Sports.
Naming the best offseason move by every AFC team, Benjamin decided that the hiring of Shane Steichen was the best move for the Colts.
Shane Steichen hire named best offseason move for Colts
Benjamin explained that Steichen’s hire will be graded by how he helps develop Anthony Richardson. Acknowledging Steichen’s work with Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts, there’s a belief that Shane Steichen is well equipped to lead the 2023 fourth-overall pick to a successful NFL career.
While Steichen hasn’t coached the team in a game yet, vibes seem to be high in the building under Steichen’s lead. Players have been impressed with his offense and his coaching style, the way he consistently demands the best out of everyone. The goal is now for that to lead to a productive offense and winning.
If that happens, Steichen will be in Indianapolis for a long time. If he gets the best out of Anthony Richardson like everyone thinks he can, the Colts will have a really good head coach and quarterback duo for years to come.
