The Colts season is not going as the fans have anticipated, as they are off to a 0-2 start with losses to Houston and Green Bay. While it's hard to find much praise so far this season, there is one player that has really silenced his critics this season, and that’s wide receiver Alec Pierce.

(1) PFF IND Colts on X: "Alec Pierce among WRs this season: 🔵 82.8 receiving grade (6th) ⚪ 181 receiving yards (6th) 🔵 2 receiving TDs (T-1st) ⚪ 3.35 yards per route run (5th) https://t.co/zRCHTrUaOP" / X

Criticism Abound To Start

I will admit, I was one of Alec Piece’s biggest critics. I had said countless times that this was “make or break” season for him, especially with the addition of rookie Adonai Mitchell. The pressure was on him to deliver, and he has so far this season. Pierce has recorded 8 receptions for 181 yards and 2 TDs. He is leading the Colts receiving room so far, and it’s not particularly close. That standout stat is total yards, where he has 181 yards, and the next closest is Ashton Dulin with 67. Now, Pierce did catch two deep balls from Anthony Richardson in the first game of the season. The first touchdown was arguably one of the greatest throws we have seen in recent NFL history.

Pierce’s Strong Camp Has Continued Into The Season

It has not been easy for Pierce since being drafted by the franchise in 2022. This is his third different quarterback since being drafted. Pierce has had Matt Ryan, Gardner Minshew, and now Anthony Richardson. Ryan and Minshew were more focused on the game management and not the deep ball, which is the expertise of Alec Pierce. You can see that the connection to Anthony Richardson is growing deeper as each game goes by.

Despite the struggles of this coaching staff so far, they have brought out the best in Alec Pierce this year. He has a touchdown in both games so far, and his first one was a deep ball from Anthony Richardson that broke the internet. With the projected return this week of Josh Downs, we might see less of him. The opposite argument would be with Michael Pittman, Jr. commanding the opposing team’s top corner every week, we could see more of him regardless.

With the wide receiver room returning to full strength this week, the continuing progress of Alec Pierce will be a great storyline to follow as his critical comments are getting less each week.
