After an offseason of change, the Indianapolis Colts will get the ball rolling on their 2023 season when they return for training camp on Tuesday, July 25. The 25th is report day, and on the 27th, fans will be able to attend the first of several open training camp practices that Indy is hosting this year.

Fans will have a front row seat as the Colts try to get things turned around. Coming off a 4-12-1 season, this will be a very important training camp. Indianapolis has a first-year head coach, a rookie quarterback, star veterans returning from injury, and several players entering pivotal contract years.

With all of that going on, this training camp will have several important storylines to follow. Here are the four biggest storylines to watch develop throughout Indy’s training camp.

4. Contract decisions

As stated earlier, several prominent members of the team are entering the final year of their contracts. Among those players are Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman Jr., Grover Stewart, and Kenny Moore II. As the team works on getting ready on the field, the off-field business will be something important to pay attention to.

Training camp is the time that Chris Ballard and the front office usually get extensions done. Braden Smith and Shaquille Leonard were extended during training camp a couple of years ago, and Quenton Nelson was extended on the eve of Week 1 last season.

Will any business get done this offseason? Will the Colts make Taylor the highest-paid running back? Will they lock up their WR1, Pittman? Or, will Indy let guys like Stewart and Moore play the year out and enter free agency in 2024? Maybe there could be a trade? These are all things to watch during training camp.
