Stephon Gilmore
The Colts already made the wise move to re-sign cornerback Kenny Moore, making him the highest-paid slot cornerback in league history. But, that's just it: he's still only a slot cornerback. The Colts have a need at cornerback and need to get this entire room solidified. A relatively young and inexperienced room could use someone like familiar face and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore.
Last year, the Colts dealt Gilmore away in a trade which saw him end up with the Dallas Cowboys. Indianapolis received a fifth-round pick in that deal. Gilmore would go on to play an integral role for the Cowboys, last year. After the Cowboys saw All Pro Trevon Diggs go down with a season-ending injury early in the year, Gilmore became their top guy in a matter of moments.
But, something unforeseen happened. DaRon Bland rose up and took over as the Cowboys' best cornerback, giving Dallas an "out" as to why they don't need to re-sign Gilmore now. With Diggs and Bland, the Cowboys will be fine without the veteran free agent.
Indianapolis, meanwhile, could stand to bring him back. Gilmore might be 33 years old, but he can still play at a high level and merits a starting position. Signing Gilmore to return to Indy could be exactly what this secondary needs.
