The Indianapolis Colts cannot catch a break, and no pun intended. Most of the team's injuries this season have been of the soft tissue variety. Not quarterback Daniel Jones, though. He had a broken left fibula, but he played through the pain. He can't play through his new injury.

In a Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones dropped back to pass and seemingly felt a pop in his right leg. He almost certainly tore his Achilles tendon and will miss at least nine months. Rushing back or pushing himself to play would be a mistake.

The quarterback knew he had been badly hurt immediately, as he slammed his helmet on the ground, and limped off the field after being helped up by coaches and the medical group. He appeared later on the sidelines with a walking boot on his leg.

Pat McAfee says what all Indianapolis Colts fans are thinking about Daniel Jones

Now, Jones will have to hope his fibula heals quickly enough to allow him to rehab his other leg. Free agency awaits him in 2026, and while the Colts might bring him back, his asking price has probably greatly diminished. For the human being Jones is, one can rightly feel sorry for all the pain he has suffered this season.

Former Indianapolis Colts punter, and current popular talking head, Pat McAfee might have summed up many Indianapolis fans' thoughts when McAfee posted on X/Twitter after Jones's injury, "I love you Danny Dimes. I’m sorry man."

Nothing else can truly be better said than what McAfee wrote. It was simple and heartfelt, empathetic and understanding. Daniel Jones has proven his toughness to the Colts this year by playing threw what must have been immense pain. Whether he compensated so much with his right leg that it led to the Achilles tendon injury is unknown, but he'd probably play with that injury, too, if he could.

The quarterback doesn't appear to play because he knows that if he is extremely successful this year that he will get paid a lot of money in the offseason. Instead, he seems driven to excel for the same reason many of us would have: He loves football and wants to do well for himself and his teammates.

Now, there is no guarantee that Danny Dimes will even return to the Indianapolis Colts. He might miss most, if not all, of next season. But just as McAfee wrote, many fans will always love the quarterback, and we couldn't feel worse for him.
