June and July are the silly season for NFL analysts and former players turned talking heads. Former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee is among the best of the latter, and thank goodness for it. He's a homer in just the right way and draws a national audience.

So, when McAfee makes the kind of prediction he recently did by picking the Colts to win the Super Bowl this coming season, one must take it with a grain of salt. A tasty grain, of course, but to be certain, Indy will not be chosen by many to win a title early in 2027.

McAfee said on ESPN, "Give me the Indianapolis Colts winning the Super Bowl over the Seattle Seahawks...Now (the season) is 100 days out (and) I do reserve the right to see Myles Garrett in a Los Angeles Rams uniform...That's not a biased pick at all."

Obviously, McAfee's pick is biased. He is a former player and a season-ticket holder at Lucas Oil Stadium. He's proud to have played for the Colts, and good for him. He is a fan at heart, and good for him to be so. But his choice of Indianapolis winning the title is inherently biased.

And that's fine. At this point, before the season, anyone's guess has merit. Are the Arizona Cardinals, for instance, likely to win the Super Bowl? Absolutely not, but no one can rightfully dismiss someone's claim that they are until after the season has started.

Plus, Indy has a few things on its side. For one, the team is probably going to stay healthier than it did last season, especially when it comes to key players. Charvius Ward, DeForest Buckner, Daniel Jones, and Sauce Gardner are probably not going to miss a chunk of the season (hopefully).

Plus, the team will have Gardner for a full season, and Jones will be in his second season in head coach Shane Steichen's scheme. That is a little thing that could make a huge difference. He's aiming for a Week 1 return after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 14 last season, and if that happens, the Indianapolis Colts are on equal footing with anyone they play.

Indy likely isn't as good as it was in the first half of last season, when the offense was operating at a historical pace, but the team likely isn't as bad as it was in the second half of the season. Getting to 10 or 11 wins is a possibility, and even if the team doesn't win the AFC South for the first time since 2014, Steichen's squad could still make the postseason.

Once there, with an improved defense, especially after getting younger and more athletic at inside linebacker, it could make Indianapolis a dangerous team. One potentially good enough to fulfill Pat McAfee's prediction of the Colts winning the Super Bowl.
