The Indianapolis Colts are desperate for some momentum. They have left plenty to be desired even in their wins, and with general manager Chris Ballard no longer in the picture, it's clear that the owners mean business. It's time to get the job done.
Unfortunately for them, the Minnesota Vikings will be a much tougher opponent after dropping the ball at home against the Tennessee Titans. That was a game they couldn't afford to lose, so they're now officially against the wall.
Desperate people do desperate things, and head coach Shane Steichen might have to think outside the box to pull this one off. Considering that, let's talk about three players who might have a surprisingly big role in Week 7.
3 Indianapolis Colts players who might surprise everyone in Week 7
Deion Burks
The Keenan Allen experiment has been vastly underwhelming in Indianapolis. He's a shell of the player he once was, and he won't make much of an impact going forward. That means someone will have to step up.
Tyler Warren is pretty banged up and may not play; Josh Downs has struggled as a primary receiver, and there's still no word on Alec Pierce. Deion Burks is elusive, fast, and explosive, and someone must make something happen. Maybe he can give this team some sort of vertical threat.
Cam Taylor-Britt
Saying Cam Taylor-Britt played a big part in the Titans' comeback wouldn't be hyperbole. He got absolutely obliterated by Carnell Tate for his first career touchdown, and all momentum shifted once Sauce Gardner left the game with a calf injury. He's not a starting-caliber guy.
That said, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Maybe Taylor-Britt can show some pride and bounce back to reward Lou Anarumo's confidence. The Vikings average just 167 passing yards per game, the fourth-fewest in the league, so he might not be that busy. Can he deliver?
Seth McGowan
Jonathan Taylor has been the offense's lone bright spot, but he's still posting the least efficient numbers of his career. The Vikings are absolutely brutal in the trenches, so Steichen's offense might need to turn to a bruising and more physical running back for this matchup.
Seth McGowan is slowly but steadily growing in the offense. He won't shy away from contact, and he can open up lanes for Taylor by wearing out the defense with his hard-hitting prowess. Also, with the season slipping away, the Colts might start thinking about Taylor as a trade chip and not so much as a workhorse running back.
