NFL expert’s bold Colts prediction could not be more wrong

We'd love to see it, but...

How will the Indianapolis Colts' 2025 season go? That's the million-dollar question Colts fans want to see answered, and of course, it won't be for quite some time. The offseason has been filled with turmoil, to say the least, with some good - like the signing of Tyler Warren - and some... well, not so good.

The biggest question mark was, and still is, who would win the quarterback battle between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. We know now that Jones won the starting job, but will that decision be a success or a disaster? If Jones continues to play the way he has through most of his career, it won't look good for Indy - and the Colts' chances of winning won't look good, either.

In any case, fans and analysts alike are trying to make predictions of what the 2025 season will hold, and ESPN's Dan Graziano made some bold predictions of his own about each team in the league. Most of his predictions for the rest of the teams in the AFC South are relatively unexciting, but for the Colts? He had one big prediction.

Could the Indianapolis Colts win the AFC South?

Graziano predicted that the Colts would win the division for the first time in over 10 years. Indianapolis hasn't won the AFC South since 2014, and hasn't been to the playoffs since 2020. According to Graziano, the Colts are primed to pull off an upset, though, and stun the league... if Daniel Jones can get his game together, anyway.

"They have a huge question mark at quarterback. Daniel Jones beat out Anthony Richardson Sr. for the starter's job because he was steadier, not because he was spectacular. But if Jones can stay healthy and play the way he did for the Giants in their surprise 2022 playoff season, the Colts believe they can build a representative offense behind running back Jonathan Taylor, a strong offensive line and rookie tight end Tyler Warren (who they believe can be a star right away). The defense added some key pieces, not the least of which is former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and Indy should be a lot better on that side of the ball than most think."

Let's be honest: that's a huge if. Banking on Jones is a big risk, even considering his one good season. Yes, he is marginally more reliable than Richardson is, but not by much. His stats are a laundry list of worsts: the third-worst completion percentage, the worst passer rating, the lowest touchdown percentage, and the lowest passing yards per game.

He's also thrown more touchdown passes to opposing teams than to his own offense.

And yet the Colts are going to become AFC South champions simply because they finally have Danny Dimes in the pocket? That's magical thinking at best. Hopefully, this prediction comes true for Colts fans, but the reality is much more likely to be that Indianapolis fans have a rough ride ahead of them and more time to rebuild starting in 2026.
