The Indianapolis Colts seem set at cornerback, so adding another one would be meaningless. According to reporting from Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, though, Indy is kicking the tires on signing the embattled Terrion Arnold.

If true, Indy fans should be asking one simple question: Why? The situation would be extremely complicated.

Arnold is facing criminal charges involving kidnapping and armed robbery from an incident that took place on February 4, 2026, in Florida. Without going into full detail about what happened, the bottom line is that if Arnold is found guilty, he could face life in prison.

Indianapolis Colts reportedly interested in potentially adding Terrion Arnold

In a court hearing on Friday, Arnold's agent, Nicole Lynn, said that "four" teams have inquired about signing the cornerback, and he has already had one visit and is expected to have another next week. Among the teams interested in adding Arnold are the Colts, the New York Jets, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Houston Texans.

Any team that brings Arnold aboard would have to do so understanding that, before or during the 2026 season, the player could be sent to jail and unable to play. Not just for the rest of this season, but possibly for the rest of what would have been his career. Why a team would take the risk ahead of his court hearing is unknown.

What also isn't clear is what kind of punishment the NFL would hand Arnold. Even if a team signs him, he could be suspended for a large chunk of games. His agent could be telling the full truth, and one would assume that what she said was true, as she stated it in a court of law, but there is a chance that the agent is also spinning Arnold's possibilities a bit.

The Indianapolis Colts have no reason to add Terrion Arnold. He is an outside corner, and Indy has two good ones in Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward, as long as they stay healthy. The depth at the position is relatively solid too.

While the team did release slot cornerback Kenny Moore recently, defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo's scheme devalued the position. Plus, Indianapolis has a built-in replacement for Moore in the person of Justin Walley. Arnold, even if the team signed him, wouldn't have a spot to play.

Colts fans might not be overly happy with general manager Chris Ballard taking a chance on signing a player who could be in jail soon and for a long time. Hopefully, all that happened was Ballard placing a call to say the Colts aren't interested in Terrion Arnold.
