Shortly after the Indianapolis Colts added Keenan Allen to the mix, they may have lost another bona fide pass catcher. Star tight end Tyler Warren went down during an 11-on-11 route and was held out of the remainder of Wednesday's practice session.

According to Colts insider James Boyd, the second-year tight end got up clutching at his groin area and reached out to a trainer before eventually walking off the field with a 'noticeable limp.' The team hasn't shared an update on his condition yet.

Warren has been one of the standouts in training camp, looking poised for a huge second year after hauling in 76 receptions on 112 targets for 817 yards and four touchdowns in his first year out of Penn State.

The Indianapolis Colts need Tyler Warren at full strength

At least, the fact that he returned to the sidelines to watch the remainder of the session is encouraging.

Warren wasn't likely to play much — if anything — of the preseason. Now, even if this is a minor injury, the team will most definitely err on the side of caution with him and rule him out of Saturday's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Colts are already dealing with Alec Pierce's ankle situation, and the last thing they need is another one of their primary targets falling with a long-term injury. Pierce is aiming for Week 1 after signing a massive deal in the offseason, but he continues to take small steps in his way back.

Warren has turned heads with his physicality in training camp. He showed glimpses of greatness and why he was the consensus TE1 in most big boards as a rookie, and he's drawn plenty of praise with his in-season growth and more aggressive approach.

The Colts just signed veteran Keenan Allen to round up their wide receiver corps and give Daniel Jones another reliable set of hands alongside Pierce, Warren, and Josh Downs. On paper, they can have a proficient passing game under Shane Steichen's guidance.

Soft-tissue injuries are tricky, and with the start of the season just around the corner, it wouldn't be surprising to see Warren stay on the shelf for at least the next week or so, assuming he's — in fact — dealing with a groin injury.

The Colts haven't necessarily been the most transparent team when it comes to detailing injuries, especially to their star players.

Hopefully, though, this will only be a scare, and Warren will be back out there to resume his preparation for a breakout season in no time.
