It only took 1 possession for Anthony Richardson to start proving the doubters wrong
The Indianapolis Colts put Anthony Richardson back into the starting lineup after letting Joe Flacco run the offense for two games. Now, it's worth noting that the Colts are playing the lowly New York Jets this week, but still, Richardson has taken his role as the starting quarterback seriously, and has his team up 13-7 just before half time.
Richardson showed on the Colts' first possession that he deserves to be the starting quarterback, uncorking a pass to Josh Downs that went for 31 yards, and got the Colts a fresh set of downs to allow the drive to continue. While the run game then set up for the Colts to take an early 3-0 lead, that bomb by Richardson set the tone for the drive.
The Colts punted on their next drive, but the third drive started with Richardson completing a 5-yard pass, and then running five yards for the first down. He then threw a 16-yard pass to Michael Pittman, Jr., and a few plays later, connected with Adonai Mitchell on a 33-yard pass that set the good guys up in a goal-to-go situation.
From there, it took two plays before Richardson dashed two yards into the end zone. The Colts were up 10-0 early in the second quarter. The Colts scored a field goal on their next drive, extending their lead to 13-0.
Anthony Richardson looks to have rejuvenated the Colts offense
While the Jets are a bad team and Richardson hasn't been dominating them by any means, he's not making the mistakes he was prone to making that led to him getting benched. The Colts offense looks rejuvenated, and they're still very much in the playoff picture. This could hopefully be what propels them toward the playoffs.
There's still a lot of season to go, but this is what the Colts needed to do with Richardson. He needed to get playing time to improve and work on his mistakes. This game has shown that the offense has the ability to move down the field and put up points with Richardson at quarterback, and hopefully, his confidence continues to grow following this performance.
