The Indianapolis Colts take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5, and both teams are struggling with players being injured. Cornerback Charvarius Ward, for instance, is listed as questionable for the matchup. He is dealing with a groin strain, though one he appears to have been playing through recently.

The positive part is that throughout the week of practice, Ward was trending in the correct direction. He was limited on Wednesday and Thursday, but then was a full participant on Friday. That would imply he is going to play on Sunday, unless he suffers a setback.

The Steelers will be missing former Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who has a foot injury. Pittsburgh hasn't been productive offensively this season, and one would assume missing one of their better receivers wouldn't suddenly make them better.

Charvarius Ward is iffy to play for the Indianapolis Colts versus the Steelers in Week 5

In fact, Pittsburgh ruled three players out total, Pittman, safety DeShon Elliot (knee), and cornerback Jamel Dean (ankle), and has two players listed as questionable, defensive back Jalen Ramsey (wrist) and running back Rico Dowdle (toe).

For the Indianapolis Colts, five players have been ruled out. The list includes tight end Will Mallory, who hasn't played yet and was on injured reserve with a thumb injury. Three of the others are linebacker Jaylon Carlies (ribs), edge rusher Arden Key (hamstring), and wide receiver Ashton Dulin (hamstring).

Two players are listed as questionable, including Charvarius Ward, of course. The other is receiver Keenan Allen (groin), who missed Week 4 with the injury. The recently acquired wide receiver Darius Slayton was initially listed as questionable, but then ruled out on Saturday.

This article will be updated with the latest information on whether Ward is playing in Week 5.

Charvarius Ward injury history:

  • September 2020 - Fractured hand (missed one game with the Kansas City Chiefs)
  • September 2021 - Quad strain (missed three games with the Chiefs)
  • September 2025 - Concussion
  • October 2025 - Concussion (missed parts of five games)
  • December 2025 - Concussion (missed parts of four games)
  • September 2026 - Groin pull (no games missed yet)

Hopefully, Ward can keep playing through the injury, as long as he is healthy enough to do so. One wonders if the Steelers being without Michael Pittman Jr., and therefore a weakened wide receiver group, would give Indianapolis a second thought about keeping Ward out of Week 5.
