Ahead of the Indianapolis Colts' second preseason game - this time, against the Green Bay Packers - running back Tyler Goodson had something to prove. He's been largely overshadowed by Jonathan Taylor, and understandably so; Taylor is one of the best running backs in the league.
Goodson has been a reliable RB2, though, and is looking to make more of a splash this season, especially with more competition at the position right now.
But heading into the Packers game, Goodson had more on his mind than just keeping his spot at RB2. He wanted revenge.
Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson got his revenge, but it cost him
Goodson was signed by the Packers in 2022 as an undrafted free agent and spent most of his time on the practice squad. Only briefly elevated to the active roster, the Packers released Goodson in August of 2023, which is how he landed in Indianapolis. And going into this game, he wanted the Packers to regret their decision.
"I've got it marked on my calendar again," he told the media in the week before the game. "To me, it's nothing like playing against a team you played before. For me, it's a chance to go show them coaches like, yeah, maybe you should have kept me. You know what I mean? So it's kind of like a chip on the shoulder thing."
In the second quarter, Goodson scored the Colts' first touchdown of the game. The Colts were in the end zone, and with two runs - the first for seven yards, and the second for three - he scored, sending exactly the message he had hoped to send to the Packers.

But evidently, it came at a price. Shortly after the touchdown, Goodson was seen walking into the locker room flanked by two trainers and his arm wrapped in a brace. It was then announced that Goodson had suffered an elbow injury and would be out for the rest of the game.
It's not known how serious this injury is; with luck, it's minor, and Goodson will be back to practice this week. But if not, it couldn't have happened at a worse possible time. Goodson was seen as all but guaranteed to have a spot on the final 53-man roster, but could that now be in jeopardy?
Between rookie DJ Giddens, who has been performing well during the Packers game, and veteran Khalil Herbert, he already had a lot of competition. Being sidelined right before the season starts is as close to a worst-case scenario as he can get.
