On Tuesday, Daniel Jones was named the starter of the Indianapolis Colts, but Indy could perhaps try to mask that with a trade. In a shocking move, the Colts did not name Anthony Richardson as their starter.
Many Colts' fans likely wanted Richardson as the starter and probably wanted to see if the third-year player with limited starts could finally hit his stride. We all know the story as well; Richardson has a ton of athleticism and maybe the biggest arm in the NFL.
But like many of these athletic quarterbacks, the smaller nuances of playing the position are harder to come by, and that's been his main issue. No matter who the Colts would have picked to start for them, it was going to be an underwhelming situation. Well, to mask their awful QB room, could Indy swing a trade for Trey Hendrickson?
The Indianapolis Colts should swing for Trey Hendrickson to mask their disastrous QB situation
The Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson have gotten nowhere with their contract negotiations to say the least, and we all know that his former defensive coordinator, Lou Anarumo, is now in Indy as their DC.
It's a logical destination for that reason alone, as Hendrickson played his best football under Anarumo in Cincinnati from 2021-2024, making four Pro Bowls and establishing himself as a top-tier pass rusher.
Seeing as GM Chris Ballard has upped the aggression in building the roster as well. He threw out big free agency contracts to two defensive backs in Cam Bynum and Charvarius Ward, so why stop there? Not only does Indy have some decent DL pieces to send back in the trade, but Ballard has every reason to be aggressive here.
You get the sense that he 2025 NFL Season could be a 'do or die' type of campaign for Ballard and some of his other front office colleagues, and in a last ditch effort to mask the QB situation and field an aggressive team for 2025, packing Kwity Paye and a draft pick together for Trey Hendrickson could be a bold but much-needed move for this franchise.
