The Indianapolis Colts might not completely believe in their depth behind running back Jonathan Taylor. Maybe they shouldn't. Taylor is the alpha of alphas, but Indy looking at a player the Seattle Seahawks recently released, Kenny McIntosh, might not be the answer either.
According to The Athletic's James Boyd, Indy hosted McIntosh, as well as running back Marcus Major, on a visit on Friday. Major played in college and in the UFL for the Houston Gamblers, but hasn't played in the NFL yet. McIntosh has, but only sporadically, and that is part of the problem,
A seventh-round draft pick out of Georgia in 2023, McIntosh showed some explosiveness in training camp as a rookie, but he hurt his knee before the season began. He appeared in only three games because of it. He was healthy enough to play in all 17 in 2024, but got just 31 carries. He had a solid 5.5 yards per rush, however.

Unfortunately, last July in training camp, he had another knee injury. This one was far more dire, as he tore his ACL, and he missed the entire season. He didn't participate in any organized team activities or minicamp this offseason, and he wasn't able to go when Seahawks training camp started, either.
Seattle's running back group might not be proven at this point (previous starter Kenneth Walker signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, and the presumed 2026 starter is trying to return from a knee injury in last season's playoffs), but they are fairly deep. McIntosh might have had a difficult time making the active 53-man roster even if he had been healthy.
No matter, he is a free agent now and can sign with any team. He won't be expensive due to his extensive injury history and his lack of production in the first three seasons of his career. He also plays running back, which most teams don't pay high dollar for anyway.
Even the Indianapolis Colts kicking the tires on his potential signing implies that the team isn't sold on Jonathan Taylor's backups, DJ Giddens and rookie Seth McGowan, getting many reps. That's troublesome, as the team also has needs at WR3 and edge rusher behind Laiatu Latu. That these issues weren't solved in the offseason by general manager Chris Ballard is not good.
Still, Kenny McIntosh could finally find himself with the Colts. He has flashed explosiveness when he has been healthy enough to play. Maybe if he signs with Indy, he stays healthy and makes a real impact. That would be the hope, of course.
