Chris Ballard has to get this done.

Who knew that all it would take for the Indianapolis Colts to be a juggernaut was Daniel Jones? The only six-win team in the NFL right now, Indianapolis has begun to open up a lead in the AFC South and feel destined for a top-3 seed in the AFC playoffs a couple of months from now.

The story of the season has been Daniel Jones and the high-flying offense, and I guess it really shouldn't be a huge surprise that the Colts are playing this well. General manager Chris Ballard was able to assemble a supremely talented offseason and really only needed a competent QB to unlock it.

Now three weeks until the bye and just two weeks until the NFL trade deadline, it would, frankly, be ridiculous if Chris Ballard did not make some type of acquisition to boost the roster, as there is a gaping hole in the secondary due to a plethora of injuries, and the Colts have to act quickly on this perfect fit before another team does or before the deadline passes.

Saints' CB Alontae Taylor could be on the move and could also be a great fit for Colts' Lou Anarumo

From Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler in ESPN:

The buzz: This would be a surprise, but is still one to watch. The Saints don't want to trade Taylor, but would consider it if they receive a strong offer. He is on the radar of a few teams. Taylor is a 2026 free agent who figures to earn a big payday, and it's worth noting that the Saints have a young core of defensive backs they like in Kool-Aid McKinstry, Quincy Riley, and Jonas Sanker. -- Fowler

The tape: Taylor's versatility and urgent play style show on the tape. He has the speed to cover on the perimeter, but he can also play a disruptive role in the slot. In four years with the Saints, Taylor has 6 sacks, 3 INTs, and 36 pass breakups. -- Bowen

Taylor was a second-round pick back in the 2022 NFL Draft and is a bit of a ball-hawk. He's also, plainly, an upgrade at a position where the Colts are hurting, and it's clear that Indy has a window of contention open.

In today's parity-filled NFL, contention windows can close very quickly, so this could be the team's best chance at making a Super Bowl run. Chris Ballard has largely done an excellent job at assembling this 2025 roster, but he's got to take it a step further and make a move to boost a massive position of need. Alontae Taylor would be a perfect fit and could even be someone the Colts re-sign in the offseason as well.
