He deserves it.

The Indianapolis Colts still have some tough decisions to make before roster cuts are due to be made. One is at tight end, with a spot coming down to Will Mallory and Jelani Woods. Mallory probably had that wrapped up before preseason Week 3.

Maybe the tougher decisions involved the cornerback group. This was made more problematic due to so many injuries. Rookie Justin Walley was trending toward being a starter, for instance. But he will miss the season with a knee injury.

The team signed 32-year-old veteran Xavien Howard recently, and he might be the starter opposite offseason acquisition Charvarius Ward. Kenny Moore II will hold down the nickel spot, and Jaylon Jones was probably locked into a spot, too.

Chris Lammons has likely ended any roster drama with the Indianapolis Colts

But if the Colts keep five corners, which appears likely, there are a number of players fighting for that spot. Chris Lammons has earned it, though. The six-year veteran played in 14 games for Indianapolis last year, and even started one, but he only got 95 snaps.

In training camp and the preseason, he has been a standout. Through the first two preseason games, he had allowed just two of his targets to be completed, and three of those passes were broken up. In other words, the passes were incomplete because Lammons forced them to be.

Against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Colts' last preseason game, Lammons did not disappoint. He was aggressive in run support and brought some quarterback pressure. His versatility is going to get him on the field more in 2025, though he will still remain a backup. Lammons has played like every player fighting for their roster spots.

Not just against the Bengals, but from the beginning of training camp. He understood that to keep making a living playing in the NFL, he could not take for granted that he had spent years in the league. He knew he needed to keep proving himself as if he were a rookie.

Instead, he has done even better. He is playing as if the Indianapolis Colts were to release him, he would definitely catch on with another team and make an impact. After all, preseason games aren't just auditions for players for their own teams, but for other teams, too.

The Indianapolis Colts need to make sure Chris Lammons doesn't land anywhere else, though. As Indy has already seen a lot of corners get injured before the season, should that trend continue, Lammons will need to play valuable reps. He is ready.
