Colts just forced Titans' Brian Callahan into a humiliating decision

What seems to be clear at this point is that Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan shouldn't be a head coach in the NFL. Two seasons in with Nashville's team, and his record is 3-17. Plus, he proved to have atrocious clock management in Week 3 versus the Indianapolis Colts.

But while Indy defeated the Titans 41-20 in Week 3, the Colts apparently forced Tennessee to make a fundamental change. This week, Callahan turned his play-calling duties over to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree. Normally, a head coach takes away duties, not gives away their own.

The odd part is that Callahan's pure play-calling abilities aren't the real problem. Sure, he called five straight run plays near the end of the first half against Indy, but that had more to do with how he was trying to wind the clock down instead of what he thought would work offensively.

Indianapolis Colts just forced the Tennessee Titans head coach to make a huge move

This is shown by the discrepancy that Tennessee passed 38 times and ran 23. Sure, the Titans were forced to throw more because they were getting blown out, but they were already trailing 17-6 (which felt like 35-6) before halftime.

The Indianapolis Colts appear to have simply forced the Tennessee Titans and Brian Callahan to quit about halfway through the game. The proverbial white flag was waved after the game, however, with Callahan handing off play-calling duties. But that won't fix Callahan's team. He needs much more.

Tennessee has a rookie quarterback in Cam Ward who might be fine with more experience and a better offensive line. He needs a top wide receiver who doesn't drop passes like Calvin Ridley does. Rookie QBs aren't usually big winners in the NFL unless the rest of the team is really good.

The Titans aren't, but that is good for the Colts. Indy has to play Tennessee twice a season and needs them to remain bad. Indianapolis has now beaten the Titans five straight times, and a sixth-straight should follow in Week 8.

Maybe the Indianapolis Colts need to find a way not to blow out the Tennessee Titans until the second half in the next game. That way, maybe Brian Callahan won't panic again and make a fundamental change. Indy needs Callahan to stay in Nashville so the Colts can keep counting on victories versus Tennessee.
