The Indianapolis Colts don't have a first-round pick heading into the 2026 NFL draft. That means your favorite sports talk-show host, Pat McAfee, will get to announce Indy's first choice. He will also get to announce the second selection, and maybe even a third.
That is because the league announced the legends and current players who will announce the Day 2 picks for each team. For Indy, that's McAfee, arguably the best punter in team history, outspoken voice of all things Colts, and normally spot-on about whatever opinions he espouses about football.
He's fun and funny, and at times, irritating. That is part of his gig, of course.
Pat McAfee chosen to announce Indianapolis Colts' Day 2 draft picks
Some teams, like the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers, have multiple people. That isn't needed for head coach Shane Steichen's team. Indy only needs McAfee, and it is what he says besides the player being chosen's name that will be unexpected.
Will he shout down Indianapolis's rivals? Will he beckon Peyton Manning to appear on stage? Something, and literally anything, is bound to happen when McAfee takes the stage in Pittsburgh (where the 2026 draft is held). Maybe McAfee will even finish his feud with outgoing Indy linebacker Zaire Franklin once and for all.
As for when the Colts pick, that will be numbers 47 (second round), 78 (third round), 113 (fourth round), 156 (fifth round), 214 (sixth round, 249 (seventh round), and 254 (seventh round). The only picks McAfee will be tasked with are 47 and 78.
The former punter played for the Indianapolis Colts from 2009 through 2016. He was named to the Pro Bowl twice (2014 and 2016). He was First-Team All-Pro in 2014. In other words, while Pat McAfee is one of the better-known talking heads on television and streaming currently, he made his bones honestly. He was a good player and deserves to keep talking about the game.
While Colts fans might laugh at whatever McAfee comes up with while announcing the picks, the hope is that he will pick at other teams. He can do it well, has made a good living doing that, and will be one of the more interesting aspects of the 2026 draft.
