The Indianapolis Colts are currently in the prove-it phase ahead of the 2025 season. The truth is that national pundits focus far too much on what happens in training camp and the preseason, and not enough on the overall roster of a team. Indy is good, but maybe not at QB.
Or maybe the Colts are fine. Anthony Richardson hasn't done well, when he has been healthy enough, in two seasons, so maybe free agent Daniel Jones will find his way in Indianapolis. If he does, not only is Indy going to be quite good, but they might be a threat once the playoffs begin.
This isn't the case in the opinion of NFL Spin Zone's Sayre Bedinger. Bedinger is a fine writer and knows what he speaks of the NFL, but the hope is that he is wrong. He has the Colts picked to finish third in the AFC South this season, as many do.
One pundit foresees a disappointing Indianapolis Colts 2025 season
The problem is the quarterback. As Bedinger writes, "The skill players for the Colts are outstanding, so really it's a matter of whether or not a quarterback can keep this ship afloat. And right now, that's a big question."
He isn't wrong. While he has the Jacksonville Jaguars picked as finishing behind the Houston Texans in the division, a lot of it is based on the Jags remaining healthy and rookie savant Travus Hunter being good. Hunter should excel in the league, but nearly every rookie struggles.
As far as the Texans, why would someone not pick them to finish first? Maybe Houston is just that good, but finishing with 10 wins every year in a league that now plays a 17-game season is not remarkable. It just gives every team a chance for double-digit wins. Otherwise, they could just finish 9-7.
The Indianapolis Colts, even with poor quarterback play in 2023 and 2024, have still won around half their games. If Daniel Jones is somehow good, Indy could be a 10-win team. That might be enough to take the division.
Most importantly, as well as how the Colts are built overall, if the quarterback play is decent in the playoffs, Indy is a very dangerous team. The offensive skill position players are good, and the defense is solid. Underestimating Indianapolis in 2025 is a mistake, though a logical one.
