The Indianapolis Colts trust cornerback Jaylon Jones enough to have him be a full-time starter in 2024. The team isn't afraid to take chances on seventh-round selections, after all, but Indy does seem to give up on them quickly. Jones was released days ago, just as 2022 seventh-round choice Rodney Thomas II wasn't re-signed in free agency.
Jones landed with AFC South rival the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, though, and not just with the practice squad, but on the active roster. This means Indianapolis could be facing the former player twice in 2026 (and maybe beyond), and he likely will want his revenge.
But can he deliver that? Maybe not. The truth is that while Jones wasn't bad in 17 starts in 2024, he was injured at the beginning of last season and then was ineffective. Had he played last year as he did in 2024, he might still be on the team, but he didn't.

His quarterback rating allowed in 2025 was 100.9, and he gave up two touchdowns on 28 targets, 16 of which were completed. He allowed one more touchdown last season than he did in 2024, but on 73 fewer targets.
Jones also had no spot on the Colts' roster. As long as Indy can stay healthy, the cornerback group should be very good. Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward will play on the outside, and promising Justin Walley will play in the slot. Jones was going to be buried on the depth chart.
He probably won't be with the Titans. Tennessee does have new defensive-minded head coach Robert Saleh, but many of the players on the Titans' defense are new too. The outside corners are expected to be Alontae Taylor and Cordale Flott. Both can be solid, but aren't exactly Gardner and Ward.
Jones has a path to play, but that is probably only a good thing for quarterback Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts offense. Again, Jaylon Jones isn't a terrible player, but the team does know his weaknesses and didn't trust him to be effective enough in Lou Anarumo's defense to keep him on the roster.
The Colts obviously need to make the playoffs this season, but to help them do that, the team needs to keep handling their business against the Titans (Tennessee hasn't beaten Indy since October 2022). Tennessee making moves like adding Jones only helps Indianapolis's cause.
