Former Colts player might have just found the upgrade he doesn't deserve

How lucky is he?

Whatever dirt Chad Muma has on different organizations in the NFL must be great. The Jacksonville Jaguars took him in the third round of the 2022 draft, never played much with the Jags, and was picked up by the Indianapolis Colts after final roster cuts were made this season. Muma couldn't find his way to many snaps with Indy either.

He should have had a chance to make an impact. At the beginning of the season, the Colts had Zaire Franklin at off-ball linebacker, but were still searching for his long-term partner. Muma was claimed by Indianapolis before the team signed Germaine Pratt after Week 4.

In other words, Muma could have made an impression on defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo enough for Indy's DC to give the linebacker a tryout as a starter. That didn't happen, and Muma has sat on the practice squad and hasn't played on defense since Week 6.

Former Indianapolis Colts practice squad player Chad Muma picked up by the New England Patriots

His lack of production when he did play was staggering. He played 32 defensive snaps and made one tackle. For an inside linebacker, that is difficult to do.

No matter. Chad Muma has found his way to his third team of the 2025 season, the New England Patriots. The Pats signed Muma off Indy's practice squad a day after Week 15. The sad part is that Muma is now going to get a chance to play in the postseason with New England, and he probably wouldn't have with Indianapolis.

New England is 11-3 with a 99 percent chance of making the postseason. After beginning the season 7-1, the Colts are now 8-6 and, according to the official NFL site, have a 15 percent chance of making the playoffs.

Indianapolis could change the narrative on its season, though. With three games remaining, Indy will play the San Francisco 49ers, but then the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. The Colts might have to win the last three games, but beating the Texans in Week 18 will almost certainly be needed.

Chad Muma won't be around to not help, however, and that is a good thing. What Indianapolis Colts fans need to hope for is that Franklin and Pratt don't join the ever-growing list of Indy players to get hurt. Losing either would be crippling to an improving defense.

What would be interesting is if all three of the teams that Muma worked for this season made the playoffs. The Jaguars and the Patriots almost certainly will. Hopefully, the Colts will join them in the postseason.
