The Indianapolis Colts have prided themselves on having a solid offensive line, and that's going to need to continue if this team wants to ensure that Daniel Jones remains healthy these next few years. Bill Barnwell of ESPN floated a potential offensive lineman option for the Colts, and it's one that, on paper, actually makes quite a bit of sense.
Jawaan Taylor is still waiting for his next NFL home and Barnwell said that he could make sense as a member of the Colts.
"Massive 6-foot-8 tackle Jalen Travis made four spot starts at the end of last season and should be the favorite to start on the right side if general manager Chris Ballard doesn't add a tackle, but Taylor would be a more reliable option in a season when anything short of a playoff berth could lead to widespread changes in Indianapolis."
Bill Barnwell thinks Colts should target Jawaan Taylor
The idea is a decent one, as the Colts lost Braden Smith to the Texans in free agency. As Barnwell noted, Jalen Travis has experience at right tackle, but not quite the same experience that Taylor has.
Colts fans probably remember Taylor best from his days as a Jacksonville Jaguar, where he made 66 starts at right tackle over the span of four years. Taylor eventually signed with the Chiefs, where he started 45 games, but, unfortunately for him, he mostly became a punching bag for the fans due to all of the false start penalties he acquired.
That's likely the reason Taylor is still waiting for a new home: his reputation surrounds penalty flags being thrown in his direction. It might be worth the risk for the Colts to give his agent a call and bring him in, though. He'll likely be more affordable than he normally would, and Indy could use offensive line depth.
Chris Ballard will have to decide if he's comfortable with Travis as the right tackle or if he wants another veteran to compete with him for that starting job. If he does decide that Taylor is worth a look, it could end up being a sneaky good signing for Indianapolis.
