The Indianapolis Colts looked better in Week 2 than in Week 1, but the outcome of the game was the same. Indy lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 33-30 in overtime. Unfortunately, this meant more winners than losers from the game for head coach Shane Steichen's team.

One might argue with the play-calling when Indianapolis had the ball in overtime, for instance, and the team seemed fine with going for a field goal instead of aggressively chasing a touchdown. That lack of urgency might be costly later in the season.

While Indianapolis does need to make the postseason, they started 0-2; hope still exists as long as the Colts can keep fighting, as they did against KC. The season is not yet lost after only two games.

Winners and losers from the Indianapolis Colts' tough loss to the Kansas City Chiefs

Winner: Safety Kapena Gushiken

Maybe Gushiken should be the slot cornerback beginning in Week 3? The undrafted free agent made two huge plays late in the game and was far more physical than Justin Walley. That is a small sample size, but Gushiken offers strong athleticism. With a bit of development, he could turn into a long-term good player.

Loser: Linebacker CJ Allen

Allen finally saw the field after not playing at all in Week 1. Still, he was low on the inside linebacker rotation and didn't offer much help when he was in the game. As the team's first selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, he has been a disappointment.

The coaching staff will say that he is learning and progressing, but those words are empty. Allen needs to begin proving his draft worth, and that needs to start in Week 3.

Winner: Wide receiver Josh Downs

Downs is in the final year of his rookie contract, and finally has a chance to show he can be a good WR2. After Alec Pierce left the game due to hurting his ankle or heel again, Downs was the best pure receiver that the Colts had. He finished with seven catches and 72 yards, and made some of his best catches in tight coverage.

Loser: Cornerback Justin Walley

Walley was better than in Week 1, but he was still terrible, especially early. He isn't strong enough to challenge wide receivers physically, and he doesn't appear to have good enough technique to overcome that. In the second half, he was still on the field, sometimes on the outside instead of in the slot, but Gushiken played better. Walley should move to the bench in Week 3.

Loser: Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo

For all the respect Anarumo gets, he has statistically been good at his job over most of the last decade. He also hasn't shown he can develop current Indianapolis Colts players. Sure, the game went into overtime, and the Chiefs had a couple of extra drives because of it, but Indianapolis still allowed more than 500 yards for the second straight week. That includes a poor 6.7 yards per play.
