Colts veteran already has one foot out the door at training camp (and for the silliest reason)

Indy can't afford to lose him, too

One of the best players on the Indianapolis Colts roster could be leaving after this season, and it's for a ridiculous reason. Bernhard Raimann has been named the Colts' secret superstar, despite playing at a position that is often overlooked and underappreciated. Yet Raimann is so good that he has been literally named untouchable, the building block upon which the Colts rely. And it's not hard to see why; with the quarterback situation up in the air, it's more vital than ever to have a reliable blocker in place.

So the latest update from Raimann himself is aboslutely mind-boggling.

Training camp started this week, and Raimann made an appearance on 107.5 The Fan's "Query and Company" to discuss his current status in Indianapolis. He is in the last year of his contract, and so far, hasn't been extended. And from what Raimann said, negotiations to keep him in Indy aren't going well.

While he was tactful, he also insinuated that he is being undervalued by the Colts - which, if true, is a huge mistake.

"Obviously, we love it here. Would love to get things done. I'm not involved in this. Obviously, you have an agent that takes care of this. From my understanding, they aren't on the same page about things right now. But for me as a football player, I'm preparing for the season because that's what matters."

When pressed to expand more, Raimann admitted that the Colts aren't offering him what he and his agent feel he's worth.

"From my understanding is that the numbers don't always quite add up yet," he said. "You know, the way they might value the position differently than my team thinks it is. Um, but, you know, we're working on it."

Furthermore, he also seems to understand just how important he is to this team, responding quickly when host Jake Query said Raimann holds one of the most valuable positions. "I'm well aware of that," he said. "I know that my agent knows that, um... hoping the Colts know that, too."

Yikes.

The Colts already lost Ryan Kelly and Will Fries; they can't afford to lose Raimann, too. Yes, the price to keep a left tackle on board has been rising, but as Query said, it's a vitally important position. And Raimann is an incredibly talented tackle, one of the best in the league. There's no reason for the Colts to not pay him what he's worth, and if he ends up leaving, too? That will be bad, bad news for Indianapolis - so much so that it might not matter who ends up playing at QB1.
