The Indianapolis Colts couldn't ignore their need for insurance in the interior of the offensive line in the 2026 NFL draft. And, with Kentucky's Jalen Farmer still on the board when they were on the clock at No. 113, the fit was pretty evident.

While not the flashiest guy by any means, Farmer's combination of strength and work ethic should help him carve a role in the pros. He might be a little raw around the edges and could take some team refining his technique, but the overall sentiment is optimistic.

Considering that, it wasn't much of a surprise to see ESPN analyst Field Yates choosing him as one of the best value picks in the entire draft. He knows the Colts will have to be patient, but Farmer has starting-caliber upside.

Jalen Famer can be an absolute steal for the Indianapolis Colts

"Farmer is a quintessential 'first guy off the bus' type of guard, bringing a mean streak to the field. He has great size and nimble feet, and he can drive defenders with ease when he engages," Yates wrote. "Farmer will need to work on his hands at the NFL level, but I'm bullish on his strength making an early impact for Indy."

Evaluating raw offensive linemen is a tall order. Sometimes, the consistency isn't there, but the flashes are impressive enough to make teams roll the dice on them. That was the case with Farmer, whose tape wasn't spectacular, but he boasts the physical traits to be an absolute mauler at the next level.

Standing at nearly 6-foot-5, 312 pounds, and with an 82 5/8 wingspan, Farmer's broad build makes him a unit of a human being. He might even be able to play some right tackle if needed, especially given that he was slightly better in pass protection than as a run blocker.

Also, he was called for only one penalty in 818 offensive snaps played, and discipline is always a plus with young offensive linemen.

The Colts have more questions than answers on the right side of the offensive line. Matt Goncalves and Jalen Travis aren't that experienced, and while they're clearly ahead of Famer in the learning curve, he should be considered a legitimate threat to take either of their jobs at some point.

The offensive line failed to create running lanes for Jonathan Taylor during their losing streak, and Shane Steichen will likely keep everybody on a short leash, knowing that his seat might be a little lukewarm. Farmer has an NFL-ready body, plays with unmatched strength, and has a strong work ethic, so he might take the field early and often as a rookie.
