The Indianapolis Colts need to cut their roster down to 53 players ahead of the 2026 season, but as part of that process, the team added another player. The team traded for Buffalo Bills center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger on Sunday, hours before the roster needed to be drastically reduced.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Indy sent Buffalo a sixth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft for the two-year veteran. Pran-Granger is a pure center, and the presumed backup, which means one or two current Colts players should feel nervous about their employment in Indianapolis.
Those players are Dalton Tucker and Jimmy Morrissey. Morrissey didn't play center much in the final preseason game, which means the team might be looking at him as a backup guard, but that isn't likely either. His best hope may be landing on the practice squad.

Tucker was wretched against the Detroit Lions in preseason Week 3, especially when it came to the fundamental task of snapping the ball. He wasn't only snapping the ball high when quarterbacks were in shotgun formation, as that might have been easily correctable. He was snapping the ball low, too. He can't be trusted moving forward.
As for Pran-Granger, he was taken in the fifth round of the 2024 draft out of Georgia. He hasn't started many games for the Bills, but he has been rather solid when he has. In 77 career snaps in pass protection, he has allowed just one quarterback pressure and no sacks.
He is a far better pass-blocker than a bulldozer in the run game, but that should be fine. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is going to find his holes to run through, and keeping quarterback Daniel Jones clean is more important.
Of course, Pran-Granger is only going to be the backup to Tanor Bortolini for the foreseeable future. Bortolini is quite good at his job, but a glaring weakness for the Indianapolis Colts was the backup center spot. The former Bills player should fix that.
When final roster cuts are made, both Tucker and Morrissey could be on their way out, so Indy adding the new center should be a net-negative for the roster count, and that is a good thing. Trimming the roster from 90 to 53 is no easy task, but made easier when a team adds a player of quality in the last few hours before roster cuts. That is what the Colts have done by adding Sedrick Van Pran-Granger.
