Colts just opened the door for their perfect QB target to walk through

Kicking the tires in theory.

The Indianapolis Colts are obviously going to look everywhere for a quarterback to replace Daniel Jones for the last four games of the season after he tore an Achilles tendon. Backup Riley Leonard is dealing with a sore knee, and former starter Anthony Richardson is probably done for the year after breaking an orbital bone in Week 6.

Ahead of Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks, though, Indy is reportedly inviting 44-year-old (and four-seasons retired) Philip Rivers in for a visit. To be fair, Rivers finished his career well, and his last season was spent with the Colts. He also hasn't played a game in a long time.

If the team is looking to see if Rivers can play, perhaps general manager Chris Ballard should place another call to a former Indianapolis QB. That would be Andrew Luck, who is still only 36 years old even though he retired after the 2018 season.

Indianapolis Colts should see if Andrew Luck is interested in returning for four games

Luck left the team suddenly after dealing with various injuries, and he didn't want to risk his long-term health by continuing to play. Some initial fan backlash has soothed, and by all accounts, Luck and the organization are on good terms.

Maybe Luck doesn't want to play anymore, but the team should at least give him a call. This is the perfect time to do so, too. The former Colts quarterback currently has a job as the general manager of the University of Stanford's football team. Stanford, though, is done with its season after going 4-8.

A new coach has been hired, so Luck would not be busy trying to find one. If there was any time to ask Luck if he wants to play four more games for the Indianapolis Colts, it is now. All he can say is no, of course, and maybe he would.

But if the team is so desperate that they are potentially going to sign Philip Rivers, who has a son the same age as Riley Leonard, then Andrew Luck should be on the call sheet as well. He is smart, could pick up head coach Shane Steichen's offense quickly, and never had an issue with arm strength.

Ultimately, no matter who the Colts sign, the season is likely headed toward disappointment. A 7-1 start has turned into an 8-5 record currently, with four extremely difficult games remaining. The quarterback position isn't the only spot where Indy is struggling with injuries. Neither Andrew Luck nor Philip Rivers can solve that.
