Indianapolis Colts fans endured not only having to hear about how underwhelming their team would be in 2025 but also had to listen to people praising the Houston Texans and giving them the AFC South division crown before the season even got underway. While there's still a long season to go and a lot of football left to be played, that narrative has already been flipped on its head.
For one, the Colts are 2-0, which isn't something people expected. The 2-0 record might not have totally shocked people but Daniel Jones having a Baker Mayfield-type of resurgence two games into his Colts career was probably not on anybody's bingo card.
On the flip side, the Texans have started the season with an 0-2 record, dropping games to the Rams and the Buccaneers. Sure, those are two playoff teams from a season ago but the Texans were also a playoff team and people expected more from them.
Again, we're only two games into the year and the Texans aren't going to go 0-17 just like the Colts aren't going to go 17-0 but right now, the Colts sure look to be more lethal than the overhyped Texans.
Colts have a two-game head start in AFC South race thanks to Texans' ugly start
What works in Indianapolis' favor here is that because Houston won the division a season ago, the Texans will have to play a first-place schedule while the Colts will play a second-place schedule. That means while the Texans have to play the likes of Baltimore and Buffalo, Indy gets the Steelers and already played the hapless Dolphins.
The Texans also clearly did not fix their offensive line and that's going to continue to bite them in the butt this season. Meanwhile, Daniel Jones has only been sacked twice to start his Colts career.
The AFC South has run through Houston the past two years and the Colts have not won it since 2014, which was Andrew Luck's third year in the league. All of the other teams in the division have won the AFC South at least twice since Indy's last division title so it's time for the Colts to finally bring a division title back home and host a playoff game. This finally could be their year.
