If the Indianapolis Colts are going to trade running back Jonathan Taylor, it makes sense to do it sooner rather than closer to the November 10 trade deadline. According to ESPN, Indy has a decent chance of trading Taylor, but the price has to be right.

According to Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter, "Multiple teams have reached out to Indianapolis, and those talks are said to be active and ongoing, according to sources."

The teams reportedly interested in acquiring Taylor include the Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Denver Broncos. Of those teams, Seattle might make the most sense because the Seahawks just traded for former Colts left guard Quenton Nelson.

Indianapolis Colts are listening to offers for Jonathan Taylor

Taylor, running behind Nelson, has worked for years in Indianapolis, so why wouldn't it work in Seattle too? The issue is that Seattle is about to get Zach Charbonnet back from a knee injury suffered last season, and the team used its first-round pick this year on Jadarian Price.

According to ESPN, the asking price by the Colts might be akin to what the San Francisco 49ers gave up for running back Christian McCaffrey in 2022. San Fran gave the Carolina Panthers second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-round draft picks. That might also play in Seattle's favor.

The Seahawks have a projected 10-11 draft picks, though the comp selections have not officially been announced yet. Seattle could have 2-3 third-round picks. The Seahawks could give up much of their draft capital for Taylor since he is signed through 2028 and at an affordable price, but that isn't normally the way general manager John Schneider does business.

Indianapolis also likes the idea of keeping Taylor on the team to be a foundational piece during a rebuild, but he can also likely bring back more than any other player on the roster in a trade. A move might not be fun for fans, but better for the future of the franchise.

The Colts also don't need to wait two more games if they are going to make a move with the running back. Waiting diminishes the chances that Indy can get a lot back. Other teams will be trying to work out trades, and part of that will include giving up draft value. Value that Indianapolis could get for Taylor.

Jonathan Taylor has made clear that he hasn't requested a trade, as wide receiver Josh Downs has, but he also understands the NFL is a business. If a trade helps the team build better for the future, then Taylor being sent away might need to be the way.
