The two major acquisition periods of the NFL offseason are now complete, with both free agency frenzy and the NFL Draft behind the league. While teams will stick to making moves, either by signing remaining free agents or trades, franchises have a pretty good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of their rosters.

For the Indianapolis Colts, one area that the team may still want to add to is the wide receiver position. With Alec Pierce returning and Josh Downs continuing to emerge, wideout is far from a weakness for Indy. However, the team traded away Michael Pittman Jr. this offseason, so there is a question mark about the depth of the group.

The Colts should be able to build up that depth before the season starts by exploring the trade market. One name that Indianapolis should have its sights set on is Cleveland Browns wideout Cedric Tillman.

Indianapolis Colts should explore a trade for Browns receiver Cedric Tillman

Cleveland being in a position to trade away a receiver is somewhat surprising. The Browns had one of the worst wide receiver rooms in the league last season, so it would make sense if they wanted to hold on to every receiver possible.

However, Cleveland’s struggles in 2025 resulted in the franchise taking back-to-back receivers early in the 2026 Draft — KC Concepcion in the first round and Denzel Boston in the second.

Now, Tillman, who’s entering the final year of his rookie contract, could be the odd man out in a room that also includes Jerry Jeudy. The Browns could just hold on to Tillman and let him play out his contract as the rookie receivers get comfortable in the NFL, or Cleveland could get something for the receiver whose time with the franchise is likely coming to an end anyway.

If the Browns choose the second option, the Colts should absolutely be on the phone. Tillman, a 2023 third-rounder, has largely underwhelmed in his career with the Browns. The wideout has never played more than 14 games in a single season or posted 400 receiving yards in a year. Still, he’s a 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver who could produce as a WR3 or WR4 for the Colts.

It shouldn’t cost Indianapolis much to land the veteran wide receiver, so Cedric Tillman could be a gamble that makes sense for the Colts.
